Over the last decade, wildlife photographer Steve Bloom has travelled most of the planet to immortalise its animal life. He is known for his meticulous, almost supernaturally beautiful pictures of nature and animals. A recurring theme in Bloom's work is his desire to create a relationship between the observer and nature, and his perpetual search for the essence of what it means to be a living being. But underneath the beautiful surface of his photographs the focus is always on the future and the dangers posed by current ecological trends. Bloom is renowned for his inexhaustible patience and his unique ability to release the camera shutter at just the right moment. He often has to wait for days for the right image to appear. And when it finally does, he only has an instant to capture it. Steve Bloom was born in South Africa and moved to England in 1977. He began his working life in graphic design but has worked on nature photography since the early 1990s, and now has many great works to his credit.
