Yann Arthus-Bertrand

Yann Arthus-Bertrand is chiefly known for his fantastic aerial photography. His fascination with the Earth from above began in the mid-1970s when he flew over Africa in a hot-air balloon for the first time, inspiring a lifelong interest in aerial photography. Born in 1946, Arthus-Bertrand has committed his life to depicting nature and the environment, especially the dangers inherent in modern developments. During a colourful career, he has run a nature reserve in France, studied lions and mountain gorillas in Africa and worked as a photo journalist specialising in travel, sport and nature. He has covered the Paris-Dakar Rally 10 times and published books on the French Open tennis tournament. In 1991, he founded the picture agency Altitude, which specialises in aerial photography by photographers from all over the world. These days, Arthus-Bertrand is known throughout the world for his unique aerial photos, which have been published in a whole range of international magazines and papers. The exhibition Earth from Above is his main project. Its purpose is to create a collection of aerial photos from some of Earth's most distinctive, unique and highly visible landscapes as a means of taking stock of the planet's condition. Yann Arthus-Bertrand works in conjunction with UNESCO. For further information, please see: www.yannarthusbertrand.com The film about Yann Arthus-Bertrand is made by Canon: www.canon.com
